Journey of Love

(Disclaimer: All incidents mentioned here are from real life. Any similarities you find with people from real life are purely intentional and congrats you might have actually found the person in the story( The person in the story is certainly not me..!!). I am not a male chauvinist, but I am a guy so I can write only from a guy’s perspective so put up with it. Last but not the least, I am not encouraging anybody to drink (neither do I), Alcohol kills…!)

I
told one of my college mates, that I would pen this entry down before I left for Bangalore. Unfortunately it never happened. Well, at least now I feel about writing this down. Let’s start, how does love start in the first place. Many people talk about love at first sight (Well, I know two of my friends, who claim to have fallen for each other at first sight). But it’s hard for me to accept it, how could you know she/he is the right person, when you haven't spoken or know anything tangible about the person. At the most what I can think of here is, it’s just the case of mutual attraction combined with teasing of friends leading to love. It makes logical sense this way, consider a situation where a girl has to ask a query to two unknown guys (whom she has never met before). There is a pretty good chance that the girl will end up asking the better looking guy. Hence you can conclude, looks are initial token for people to fall in love. I believe that you don't fall in love with a girl because she is beautiful; the girl looks beautiful because you’re in love with her. Just try answering this question before you confirm you’re in love with the person. Take a picture of your girl friend the first thing when she wakes up in the morning (That’s when all the illusion of beauty that the make up creates is least effective). Take a hard look at the photo. If you really feel like seeing this same face for the next 50 years of your life day in and day out, as the thing first thing in the morning, may be there is a good chance you have fallen for that person. People in love often seem to have serious issue with accepting some other girl/boy is better looking than their lover. Even when it comes to looks, people have different tastes. Otherwise, there will be loads of guys wooing a single girl and vice versa.

Now coming to the next common thing you're bound to do in love i.e., flirting. Well, I guess this is a natural method of letting the other person that you like him/her. Like so many other things in life, first time you tried walking or tried cycling, the first time you try to flirt you often mess it up and end up embarrassing yourself. Then there are people who become friends, they find it hard to differentiate between friendship and love. There are many a cases where friendship turns into love. A simple way to know whether you like a girl is to find out whether you’re experiencing SBS or as I liked to call it Stomach Burning Syndrome. To be more precise, it's being possessive about the person you like. You want to spend the most amount of time with the person you like. Rather you feel irritated when he/she is spending more time with some XYZ. It’s better to let the person know that you love him/her, rather than wait. Otherwise you might seriously regret it in the future wondering what would have happened if she had said yes. As Winston Churchill puts it “It’s better to take a wrong decision at the right time, rather than take a right decision after a long time “(He based the decisions he made during Second World War on this). At least there won’t be that many people's lives riding on your decision to pop the question, unlike a war.

Then there is something in between Love and Friendship. The first time I saw this word was in my High School slam book, with a question asking me to fill my crush. Well, later I did realize the meaning of it. Coming back to the point, unlike love at first sight which I have serious doubts about. There is good chance that you might start developing a crush on somebody within the initial period. People do funny things when you have crush on somebody. As a matter of fact, there was this guy I know who ended up saying 0+0=2 while explaining something to a girl who he had crush on ( I guess love makes people blind but crush makes people dumb...!!). It gets even weirder, when the person you like knows you have crush on him/her. There was this guy who had a crush on this girl. The news somehow reached the girl he liked through her friends circle. As the story goes, on hearing this, the girl sent a message to the boy, asking him out for a coffee (Under normal circumstances alarm bells should have gone off inside boy's head i.e., no crush on girl. After all what are the odds of girl asking out a boy, that too in India). Anyways so sincere was the boy that he showed up at the specified time and place well in advance. (I wish boys show the same interest in showing up on time to classes in college). He waited patiently for his girl to come. Time really goes slow when you keep looking at your watch often. An hour later, still the boy waited. The only person that came was the waiter asking him could he serve anything, for the tenth time. Frustrated as he was by the question, he left the place in vain and disappointment. It was only later he found out that the day he was asked out was April 1. It was meant to be a fool's day prank the girl pulled on the boy. Now, I can see a few jaws dropping out of sympathy for the guy here. Well too end this story on a happy note. I can say that the girl really felt bad about the prank turning sour. They did end up going out for real after that and as of now they are truly in love.

As there are two sides of the same coin, with success comes failure on the other side. In case what if you are in love with the person, but the other person is not. Sometimes, when you pop the question for the first time, the answer turns out to be negative. But I have seen situations where the answer to the same question had changed from NO to YES with time. May be people need time to be reassured. Now the worst case scenario, what if the answer turns out to be no. Like an ideal machine which exists only in theory, an ideal love story that spans across religion and caste seems to happen only in films. In India you have these extra idiosyncrasies of caste and religion that you have to put up with which can also lead to break up. Typical reactions on guys part would be going into a shell, nothing in the world seems to interest him. As with Murphy’s law ' Things always have higher chance of going wrong at the most important of situations '. At least for guys this seems to be true with things like this happening during placements or just before exams. Of course as in films, people in real life also seem to grow beards. Least I can suggest here, talk to your friends people who are close to you. Especially alcohol combined with aching heart seems to be such a potent combination on guys (as good as the truth serum used in CBI investigations). As one of my friend puts it (after listening to nearly 15 love stories in a single night on the final day of college, each with its own twists and turns) " Now I can understand why director’s aren’t tired of making love stories in films and people never seem to get tired of watching them..!!! ". When you have large amount of people with experience like that, no wonder love stories sell at box office. To be fair the above things are easier said than done. With time most things will become vague memories some bitter, hopefully most of them turn out to be sweet that you can recollect.
